Greetings and welcome to the Department of Health Physical Education Recreation and Dance website. We are very proud of our tradition of preparing physical and health education teachers. After all we have been rising to the challenge for over 150 years. Please feel free to visit our HPRD virtual Museum on our home page. It's got to be 'one of a kind' on the web and credit must go to Dr Pedersen for putting this collection together.

EMU HPRD has never been satisfied with resting on its laurels and is always looking forward to try to predict the needs of its students in an ever-changing world. We are sensitive to the health challenges of the nation and of our students. In that regard we are keen to understand how best young teachers entering the profession can capture the imagination of children and youth and motivate them toward a lifetime of physical activity on a daily basis.

We are also interested in physical activity across the lifespan and both in and out of the school setting. Our Sports Medicine area includes degree concentrations in exercise science and athletic training. Our Parks and Recreation area now offers accredited programs of study in therapeutic recreation and recreation and parks and will soon be able to offer undergraduate and graduate courses in sport management. Our dance program has received high acclaim for both their production work and of course their teaching. Finally our Health group has recently proposed an exciting Master degree program in health Education with both community and school based health tracks. We are indeed a comprehensive department with a long tradition of high quality work in physical and health education.

I hope that you would find the time to visit with us and if you are interested in further study please browse our (undergraduate and graduate program) offerings. Look forward to hearing from you and have a happy and healthy day.
