Welcome Message
Exercise
Science is an exciting and rapidly growing field of study. With
physical inactivity considered a major risk factor for heart disease
and other morbidities, exercise and fitness have become essential
parts of daily life. Not only has exercise been recognized as important
for preventing diseases, it has also been acknowledged as essential
"medicine" in treating various illnesses - heart disease,
diabetes, osteoporosis, lung disease, Parkinson's disease and obesity
to name a few.
Thanks to the flexibility of
18 credit hours of electives, we can tailor a program to help you
meet your individual career goals. Specifically, it you wish to
pursue post graduate education in Medicine, Physical therapy or Physician Assistant, the ESP will
allow you to meet your prerequisites, prepare you for the rigor
of post graduate professional education, and provide you with a
career to fall back on if the application process is not favorable. However, since
1999, we have had a 91% acceptance rate for students applying to
these programs.
In addition to pre-professional
preparation, we prepare students to work in the following fields:
Graduate studies in Exercise Physiology (or related fields), Cardiac
Rehabilitation, Wellness(Corporate or Hospital)/Fitness Center management
(Management minor recommended), Strength and Conditioning Coaching
and Wellness/Health Promotion. If you are interested in a rewarding
program that incorporates medical based sciences and dynamic aspects
of the health and fitness industry, the Exercise Science Program
(ESP) is for you. Feel free to contact me, or any faculty member
in our program, for more information on the Exercise Science Program.
