EMU Green Background

The Department of Health Physical Education Recreation and Dance is more than just an academic department offering degrees. It is a department committed to the theory and practice of human movement.

Lakehouse

Physical activity is at the heart of the quest for a quality life and an overall feeling of well-being. Our faculty teaches and researches the biological bases of wellness as well as the social and psychological underpinnings of good health.

We are especially interested in pediatric health and wellness and the way in which the school curriculum can promote a lifetime of well being through physical activity. We are also interested in the way in which community programs deliver wellness services in recreation and sport settings.

In sum our faculty participates on campus, community and state wide health and wellness related policy boards.
